About this data

The Vahan Dashboard is the national vehicle-registration data portal operated by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India. It aggregates new motor-vehicle registrations recorded at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across all states and union territories. The dashboard allows registrations to be queried by vehicle maker, fuel type, vehicle class and category, year, and state.

  • Scraped Maker x Fuel cross-tab per vehicle-category group, India total, calendar years 2003-2025
  • Consolidated raw maker legal-entity names into canonical brand names
  • Preserved distinct historical brands rather than merging them forward
  • Bucketed raw fuel labels into standard fuel types
