The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) is the fifth round of India's flagship household health survey, conducted in 2019-21 by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) with support from ICF International. It covers a nationally representative sample across all States and Union Territories.
Key characteristics of the source:
- Health and nutrition indicators: child and maternal nutrition, anaemia, mortality, vaccination coverage
- Reproductive health: fertility rates, contraceptive use, antenatal and postnatal care
- Household and demographic indicators: sex ratio, literacy, wealth index, access to sanitation and drinking water
- State and district-level estimates: data available at national, State, and district level
- Time-series context: NFHS-5 is comparable with NFHS-4 (2015-16) and earlier rounds for trend analysis
