India's jute area fell from 960 thousand hectares in 2007 to 575 thousand hectares in 2024, and production dropped from the 2009 peak of 11.8 million bales to 8.8 million. Yield still rose from 2,020 kg/hectare in 2004 to a record 2,760 kg/hectare in 2024.
