Recorded crimes against women in India climbed from about 329,000 cases in 2015 to a peak of 448,000 in 2023, easing slightly to 442,000 in 2024. Cruelty by husbands or relatives stayed the largest category at roughly 120,000 cases, ahead of kidnapping and rape.
